Auger Cast Pilings provide essential deep foundation support, particularly where ground conditions involve unstable soils or transitions between soft materials and hard rock. This foundation method offers both economy and dependability, making it the preferred choice for large construction projects or projects closely neighboring other structures.
Auger cast pilings, also known as continuous flight auger (CFA) piles, are a type of deep foundation system used in construction. Here’s how they work:

A hollow-stem continuous flight auger is drilled into the ground to the desired depth.

Once the target depth is reached, cement grout or concrete is pumped through the hollow stem of the auger as it is slowly withdrawn from the ground.

The concrete fills the void created by the auger, forming a continuous concrete pile.

Reinforcement (typically steel rebar) can be inserted into the fresh concrete after the auger is removed.

Prestressed concrete pilings serve as the foundation of choice for long-lasting, cost-effective structural support, particularly in marine and bridge construction, owing to their versatility and superior corrosion resistance.
Prestressed pilings are concrete foundation elements manufactured with high-strength steel cables or strands that are tensioned before the concrete is poured. Here’s how they work:

Steel strands or cables are stretched and held under high tension within forms.

Concrete is poured around the tensioned steel and allowed to cure.

Once the concrete reaches sufficient strength, the tension in the steel is released.

This transfer of force compresses the concrete, creating a prestressed piling.

Prestressed pilings are commonly used in marine environments, bridge foundations, commercial buildings, and other structures requiring exceptional strength and durability. Offering square piles and can be manufactured in different lengths to suit specific project requirements.
Unlike auger cast pilings (which are formed on-site), prestressed pilings are typically precast in a factory setting under controlled conditions and then transported to the construction site for installation.
When standard engineering calculations can’t fully verify a structure’s safety and capability, on-site load testing becomes an invaluable tool. While mathematical analysis using established engineering principles typically provides sufficient evidence of structural integrity, some situations require additional verification.
In-situ load testing offers direct insight into how a structure actually performs under real conditions. This approach can reveal positive structural behaviors that conventional computational methods might miss completely.
It's important to understand that load testing serves a specific purpose: demonstrating that a structure is safe for its intended use. These tests are not designed to identify maximum load capacity or establish design strength limits.
DLS Prestressed has 2 trailers that, when closed, can haul products and equipment up to 40’ but can expand to 55’ to handle larger products.
We also have two dump trucks with a 26’ bed making it easier to maneuver through smaller more difficult areas that a larger truck cannot do. Since this truck has a dumping capability, we are able to unload the prestressed concrete piling at a location without the customer being present, if desired.
Having this flexibility allows us to accommodate our customers without hiring an outside trucking company. In doing so we are able to keep costs down as much as possible for our customers.
